Massage Therapy

Jena graduated from the Canadian College of Massage & Hydrotherapy in Halifax, NS in 2010 with honours in Massage Therapy. During her studies, she specialized in the school’s Neurological clinic, facilitating individuals with various neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. She also received certification in Aromatherapy and a form of Acupuncture known as Chinese Cupping.

Since starting her practice in Deer Lake, Jena has helped individuals in the Deer Lake and surrounding areas with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions such as whiplash, tendonitis, sprains, strains, TMJ, frozen shoulder, etc. She incorporates myofascial release, stretching and strengthening techniques throughout her treatment to maximize results. She takes an active approach to therapy, having the client participate in his/her own pathway to recovery.

Jena strives to promote and educate her clients on the importance of developing an active lifestyle as a vital role in injury prevention and rehabilitation. She enjoys running, hiking, fitness, and volunteering with the Deer Lake Figure Skating Club. We are very excited to have Jena as a part of our team.

Tana graduated with a Bachelor of Kinesiology from Memorial University in 2019 before going on to complete a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University in 2021. Tana completed her senior student placement here at ActiveLife before joining the team full time. Tana has completed student placements in inpatient stroke rehab, acute care, community support, and private practice. Tana has developed special interests in sport physiotherapy and working with clients with neurological conditions. She will be providing NeuroFitt classes in the Islaview Studio where clients with various neurological conditions will have the opportunity to participate in a group setting using our built-in ceiling track. Tana has completed courses in neuroproprioceptive taping, manual therapy, and trigger point dry needling.

Tana provides hands on treatments that are complimented with education and exercise prescription. She is excited to share her passion for physical activity with her clientele while helping them reach their specific goals. Being from the Northern Peninsula, Tana enjoys many outdoor activities such as skidooing, hiking, and skiing, as well as sports like ice hockey and volleyball. She is enthusiastic about volunteering and giving back to the community. Tana is a certified sport first responder and has been the team trainer for the Western Warriors Female U18 and NL Female U16 teams the past 2 seasons. She has also provided coverage for the Senior Red Wings Hockey team, U13/U14 Male Soccer Atlantics, and Senior High Female AAAA Soccer Provincials. Tana looks forward to more sport coverage opportunities while she works toward her certificate in sport physiotherapy.

Natasha graduated from Dalhousie University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science (Kinesiology) before continuing at Dalhousie to complete a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy in 2015. Natasha has worked in private practice since graduating with a diverse clientele and has completed additional courses in Advanced Orthopedic manual therapy training, neuroproprioceptive taping as well as multiple courses in Advanced Vestibular Rehabilitation where she has a special interest. This includes any patient suffering from dizziness or vertigo for any reason.

Natasha has a hands on approach to Physiotherapy that is complimented with patient education and exercise prescription. She is committed to providing a multisystem, holistic approach to care and is passionate about the promotion of overall health through meaningful activity. Effie graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Memorial University in 2020. She recently completed a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at Dalhousie University in 2023. Effie has completed clinical placements in a variety of settings such as acute care, inpatient stroke rehab, outpatient hospital setting and private practice (including a senior placement here at Active Life). Effie uses a holistic and client-based approach to treatment that incorporates exercise prescription, education, and manual therapy. Being a new grad, Effie is excited to build on her current physiotherapy skill set by taking orthopedic and other educational courses in the future to determine which areas of physiotherapy are of special interest to her.

When she is not working or travelling home to the South Coast of Labrador for a visit with family, you can most likely find her exploring the West Coast and enjoying the great outdoors. Whether it be on a hiking trail, cross country skiing, kayaking or camping in Gros Morne National park, she’s always up for an adventure!

Hannah graduated from the Massage Therapy Program at Eastern Academy in St. John’s, NL in July of 2019. During her studies there she learned how to treat a variety of conditions including TMJ dysfunction, plantar fasciitis, whiplash, scoliosis, carpal tunnel syndrome, low back and neck dysfunctions, headaches, shoulder pathologies and many other common musculoskeletal conditions. While she focuses on manual therapy (hands-on) techniques in her practice, she is also certified in Cupping Massage and incorporates this into her treatment regime.

In her spare time, Hannah enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her dog. As a native to Western Newfoundland, she also enjoys hiking, snowshoeing and camping and promoting physical activity.

Sarah graduated from Dalhousie University in 2010 with a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy. She has had training in all areas of physiotherapy with a greater focus being in orthopaedics and Women’s Health. After graduating from Dalhousie, Sarah worked in private practice in Corner Brook for two years before opening up ActiveLife Physiotherapy and Wellness with her husband Mike in October 2012.

​Sarah has post-graduate training in manual therapy, functional dry needling, movement dysfunction, myofascial techniques, acupuncture and treatment of female urinary incontinence and prolapse. Sarah’s treatment includes a “hands on” approach combined with specific exercise prescription. In addition to her interest in treating orthopaedic injuries, Sarah has a passion for treating Women’s Health conditions including pre and post-partum care, exercise prescription for expecting mothers, female urinary incontinence, urgency, pelvic organ prolapse, dyspareunia (pain with intercourse) and pelvic pain syndromes.

Aside from her role as a physiotherapist, Sarah enjoys spending time with her husband Mike, daughter Sophie and pup Ryder, along with her family and friends. Her interests include playing basketball, biking, hiking, skiing, cooking, gardening, reading and travelling.

​Sarah is also very passionate and acts as co-chair of the Islaview Foundation, which is a foundation built out of love and in memory of her sweet, loveable daughter Isla. Together with tremendous community support, this foundation raises money for families who have children with life-threatening illnesses. Sarah has also been heavily involved in raising money for the Ronald McDonald House NL and will continue to do so as it holds a special place in her heart. Aside from her humanity work, Sarah volunteers within her profession to promote physical activity and wellness within her community through different exercise classes and wellness events.

Amanda graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy of Ontario in 2006 and has many years of experience treating motor vehicle injuries, repetitive strain injuries, TMJ dysfunction, soft tissue injuries, whiplash, rotator cuff dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis and much more. She also has experience in prenatal massage, hot stone treatments, Swedish massage as well as facial and scalp massage.

Aside from working as a Massage Therapist, Amanda enjoys spending time with her husband and two beautiful children, going to the gym, reading, camping, snowmobiling, travelling and hiking.
